Ready to Heal from Today

You know that when your skin begins to feel like the enemy, your burnt pretty bad. I went to the International Kite Festival today here is Milwaukee. I brought my camera with me and got many amazing shots! This morning I woke up at 9AM for no reason at all. And I was wide awake. So I went to see the “grand launch” which was neat. But what the $&%# I never wake up before 10:30 or 11:00 really?! It was strange but I liked it. Honestly, it may be a little lame, but my horoscope from this one particular site seems to be dead on every day. So I’m sort of beginning to gain some insight and advice for my day from it. Yesterday it said this:

“Do what is expected of you early in the day so you can have flexibility to withdraw later on.”

So I woke up early and went out into the world! And I got sunburned. Icky. That’s just one of my attractive new sun lines… Anyways, I also rolled my ankle today. Worse than I ever have before. It made a stomach turning very loud crunch when I did it. My brother was like, “Wow, are you okay?” And I just fell over sort of in shock and pain. I’ve never ever rolled my ankle that bad before. If I move it the wrong way now it hurts, sort of like a nasty bruise. I hope that I didn’t mess it up or anything. Does this type of thing heal on it own? Youch. I’m busy working on my portfolio for college applications and I have literally about 5 times the amount of content I’m supposed to have. I’m brining my book into school to get some help from my art teachers so I can narrow some of it down. I don’t want to ditch any of it! :-( Bad events today, but good day overall.

Enjoy? Let's get cozy over coffee.

Hello, Joodie! Oh no, a bad sunburn---I'm so sorry hon... hope it's not more than a few days before that heals for you. I know with a bad burn it even hurts to take a shower...even slightly warm water stings. I hope you have a good ungent...or ointment...or balm...or cream to slather on it! (It always fascinated me that we have soo many words that all mean 'cream! :). But best of luck for a speedy healing from the burn....that's a real drag, in September to get such a burn. :(
Oh, and your poor ankle too! That I'm sure is your larger worry now. I will tell you that several years ago, I went outside in the winter in slippers...smooth-bottomed slippers...and this was a huge mistake. My right ankle did the exact same thing as your did. I started to slip on ice, and I looked down at the ground in time to see my foot seemingly roll under 180 degrees so that the top of my foot was where the sole of my foot would normally be. And at the exact same moment, I both felt, and heard an incredibly loud CRACK...it sounded as though a bundle of sticks had been broken in half over someone's knee. I did the same as you, I literally dropped to the grond the moment I heard the snap....instinctively (sub-consciously) I knew that if I tried to stand on the ankle, it would be agony. The ankle swelled up to more than twice normal sioze, and an area circling the ankle bones, completely around the ankle, turned as horrible black and blue. And I could not, even the next day, bear to put my weight on that foot. I went to the doctor two days after it happened (on a Monday), and the doctor X-Ray'd the joint....I had nothing broken in there..no ligaments town. I just had the worst sprain I have ever suffered (is a sprain damage to the soft tissue in a joint? Is it a catch-all phrase for damagae of this sort, to joints? I do not know.). But the doc wrapped the ankle, and I had to walk around on crutches for a week; I probably should have had physical therapy to strengthen the area, but never did. And you asked, Joide, if that sort of thing heals on its own...I think that sometimes it does, so that an ankle is almost back to 100%. But I think sometimes too, when a person is unlucky, ligaments, etc, can be torn, and a person should definitely have a doctor check things out. My ankle hurt, a little bit, seriously, for years. But now, 6-7 years later, it almost never gives me even a twinge of pain. Soyes, they can heal, but Joodie, if it's not considerably better in 3-4 days, please consider seeing a doctor, and having X-Rays, or an MRI done. WOW! That was a long response! And it's 5am, so it's likely smack-full of typos, too! :) I hope everything is better very soon, Joodie, Enjoy your Sunday, xoxo, CR

Your ankle should heal on it's own, Joodie. You've more than likely just sprained it badly. I did my ankle really badly when i was 18. I was playing basketball and went up for a rebound, i landed and my left ankle gave way with all the full force of my body weight on it. I heard this loud snap and just automatically feel to the ground and screamed my ass off, my ankle was double the size within about a minute. I did pretty bad ligament damage and didn't play basketball for about 4 months, i also had swelling and bruising on it after 3 months. It's very unlikey that you've done any kind of damage like that because if you did.....you'd know about it. Just try and put some ice on it if it's still swollen and rest it as much as possible. Ankles are bad things to do because if you do them bad enough or often enough, they can become weaker. My left ankle can give out on me at anytime because of how badly i damaged it. I just hope that yours isn't too bad and it gets better soon, take care. :)
  • OK this is going to sound very crazy. When I was younger my mother would keep an aloe plant in the house. When ever my sister or her got any type of burn (sunburn included) she would cut a little bit off the plant and squeeze out the aloe "juice" from inside the plant. She would apply it to the burn to help heal and sooth the area. She was born in Mexico and so had all sorts of home remedies like that. I still use a few today with my children. Will you be sharing any of the pictures with us?
