I spent some time today reading about the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk. I am aware that one of the readers of my blog has someone very close to them struggling with Alzheimer’s and I have spoken with him a little bit about it. But needless to say, I was very touched by his story, and while I have never personally known anyone with Alzheimer’s it seems to be one of the most heartbreaking diseases I’ve ever heard of. And for those who have ever known someone going through such a difficulty like this, or not, I urge you all to read the rest of this post.
On October 6th the Milwaukee Memory Walk 2007 will be taking place at Mount Mary College. Quite honestly I’ve never participated in a walk like this and I was very interested in how I could participate. I would have signed up to walk, however, it happens to be the exact same day I am taking my college SAT test. So I’ve decided to sponsor a local participant. I’ve chosen Sherrie Ihlenfeldt because of her dedication to this walk. She has already raised nearly $1,300! On her personal page she wrote:
Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease. It attacks slowly and without warning. It doesn’t introduce itself readily for diagnosis. It makes everyone feel helpless, frustrated and scared. It may, at this time, be slowed down, but it can’t be stopped.
Sherrie is a member of the team “Memory Joggers” which has raised $2,503.00 already! Also, I believe that the walk is still looking for willing Team Captains. So if you would like to give back to this charity which means a lot to me, I suggest you click here to become a Team Captain. For more information about what it takes to become a team captain you can check out their handy guide (PDF). My heart goes out to you Chris! <3
